1 Week After Deadly Park Attack in Cambridge, Police Continue Looking for Clues

The victim was identified as 60-year-old Paul Wilson

One week after 60-year-old Paul Wilson was killed in Danehy Park in Cambridge, Massachusetts, investigators could be seen stopping every single person cycling or walking through the park, asking for tips.

The officers were stationed there just before 7 p.m. Wednesday, the same time Wilson was found next to a path, his head severely beaten in.

"Almost every other day, they stop us, ask for any supporting evidence," said Byung Nahm, who was walking his dog in the park last Wednesday.

He went home that night, but his friend stayed out later with his dog.

"He said he heard the scream," said Nahm.

Police have said robbery isn't a motive, and Wilson's belongings were still on him.

New signs have also been put up in the parking lot leading to the park, telling people not to be there after dusk.

Paul Hemmerich is Wilson's first cousin. He says the family is in shock and doesn't know why someone would do this to him.

"I still can't understand that, especially in its location, especially that this was a person who was 6'6, over 200 pounds, he was no pushover, for him to be attacked like that, I can't understand it," Hemmerich said.

Wilson lived in a condo right next to the park, which is often used as a cut-through to stores and the MBTA.

Family says he was dedicated to his job at IBM, and extremely smart.

"Paul was very much forward thinking, smart, music and computers," Hemmerich said. "I never understood how much they go together, but he combined them both."

At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, there will be a community meeting at the auditorium of the Peabody School on Rindge Avenue. Investigators and the Middlesex County District Attorney will be on hand.

Wednesday night, the DA's office said it was also still looking for tips.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Cambridge Police anonymous tip line at 617-349-3359.
