10-Year-Old Hit by Car While Riding Bicycle in Bridgeport

A 10-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was hit by a car while riding a bicycle in Bridgeport this afternoon, according to a spokesperson for the city.

Public safety officials said the child was struck around 2 p.m. on South Avenue, near the corner of Iranistan Avenue and Columbia Street.

She was riding her bike on the sidewalk, then swerved out into the road, where she was hit by a Toyota Prius, authorities said. The driver of the Prius stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Officials said the child was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with head trauma and other injuries. She's listed in critical condition.
