14 Displaced, 1 Firefighter Injured in Triple-Decker Blaze in Mattapan

More than a dozen people have been displaced after a fire tore through a triple-decker in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood on Sunday night.

Firefighters responded to 14 Evelyn St. at about 11 p.m. where the fire was showing on the second floor of the building.

The blaze reached 2-alarms but crews were able to get the flames under control.

All the residents made it out safely, including Georgia Richards and her son who live on the third floor of the building.

"I looked to the window — I just heard something go, 'boom-boom,' the only thing I could do, I just grab my son," recalled Richards.

No residents were injured but one firefighter suffered a minor shoulder injury.

Of the people displaced, 10 were adults and four were children. The American Red Cross is assisting those residents.

Fire officials are investigating the exact cause of the blaze. The estimated cause of the damage is $500,000.
