$150K Bail for Man Charged with Sexually Assaulting Women He Met Online

James A. Banks of Portsmouth, NH, ordered held on $150,000 bail

A New Hampshire man, charged with sexually assaulting three women he met online, was arraigned Wednesday after waiving extradition in Maine.

James A. Banks, of Portsmouth, was arraigned on 10 felony level charges, including four counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, and five misdemeanor level charges, including criminal threatening.

Police had obtained arrest warrants for Banks, who was subsequently arrested as a fugitive from justice by police in Kittery. During the course of this investigation, it was discovered that Banks was targeting escorts through the social media site Backpage.com. Banks arranged for them to meet with him in Portsmouth.

Bail has been set at $150,000 cash.

A probable cause hearing will be held on April 14.
