17 Vermont Barns, Agricultural Buildings Get Preservation Grants

More than $200,000 in grants will help restore and maintain 17 historic barns and agricultural buildings in Vermont.

The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation announced the matching grants Friday.

The projects range from repairing a 1933 gambrel-roof horse barn in Underhill to work on an 1830 English barn that is part of a complex of agricultural buildings at a farmstead in Ferrisburgh. Organizers say the grants will help pay for foundation repairs, roof replacements, drainage work and timber frame repairs.

This year the council reviewed 33 grant applications seeking a total of more than $400,000 in funding.

Among the projects selected for funding include a barn at the Orleans County Fairgrounds in Barton and restoration of barn cupolas at a farm in Richmond.
