A longtime Barnstable police officer died suddenly Saturday night, the department announced Sunday afternoon.
Sgt. Jason Sturgis was a 19-year veteran of the Cape Cod department where he worked with the Community Impact Unit and the Patrol Division.
"Sgt. Sturgis touched many lives both here at the BPD and out in his community. He was greatly respected and will be sorely missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him," the department said Sunday.
The exact cause of his death was not announced.
