A 2-alarm fire resulted in an estimated $200,000 worth of damages early Wednesday as it charred a 3-story home in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood.

The fire broke out just before 2:30 a.m. on Melville Avenue and had already reached the home's attic by the time officials arrived at the scene, according to the Boston Fire Department.

Three people who were house-sitting for the homeowners, who were out of town at the time of the fire, were able to flee the blaze quickly and safely, Boston fire officials said.

"Under the circumstances, we were able to conserve as much damage as possible, like some stained glass windows that were able to get preserved." Deputy Fire Chief Andre Stallworth said. "But, the fire’s out and everyone is doing well."
