Father, Son Injured in Maine Turnpike Crash

The cause of the accident appears to be excessive speed

A father and son from Massachusetts were badly injured when the pickup truck they were in overturned on Interstate 95 in Kittery, Maine, on Thursday morning.

The crash occurred on the northbound Exit 3 ramp of the Maine Turnpike, Maine State Police said. The driver, Luiz Coelho, 55, of Hudson, Massachusetts, and his son, Arthur Coelho, 22, of Marlborough, Massachusetts, were both thrown from the truck. They were taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire, where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck was towing a trailer carrying a pickup truck and a passenger car. The truck was totaled in the crash.

According to police, the truck lost control on the exit ramp and overturned, coming to rest on its wheels. The trailer also overturned, coming to rest on its side. The cause of the accident is believed to be excessive speed, police said.

The exit ramp was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash.
