2 Boston-Area Locales Ranked in Top-10 of Best Cities to Raise Kids in U.S.

Cambridge and Newton, Massachusetts are ranked in the top 10 of the best cities to raise children in the United States, according to a report by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

Newton was second and Cambridge was eighth on the list, which was based on a number of factors, including graduation rates, crime rates, health insurance coverage, and median income.

Newton is described in the report as, "an exquisite, affluent suburb of Boston without any one defining characteristic but its all-around excellence reliably earns it a place in just about every 'best cities to live in' countdown."

The report cited Cambridge as, "one of the most famously liberal cities in America," and went on to say, "Left leaning parents hoping to raise their kid(s) in a community that reflects the values they believe in can do no better than Cambridge."

Other Massachusetts cities listed in the top 100 are Somerville (34) and Quincy (66). The only other New England city listed in the top 100 was Cranston, Rhode Island (77).
