Police Dogs Injured After Cruiser Struck by Texting Driver

Two police dogs in Rockland, Massachusetts, were injured after the police cruiser they were in was struck from behind by a texting driver

Two police dogs in Rockland, Massachusetts, were injured after the police cruiser they were in was struck from behind by a texting driver Wednesday, according to police.

Police had parked two cruisers off to the side of the road near 530 Webster St. at 7:34 p.m. while conducting a search warrant on a suspect.

During the search, one cruiser was struck by a vehicle operated by Christopher Fulton, 40, of Rockland.

Police say the dogs, named Boyar and Jessica, who were inside the cruiser, were treated for injuries. Boyar suffered a laceration to his head and a right leg injury. The second dog was shaken up, but not seriously injured.

Fulton was evaluated at the scene, but did not suffer any injuries.

He admitted to police that he "was thumbing through his phone" at the time of the crash.

Fulton is being charged with driving to endanger and impeded operation.
