Man, Wife Stab Each Other With Sword at West Hartford Hookah Bar: Cops

A husband and wife were taken to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries, after apparently stabbing each other with a sword during a "violent domestic incident" at the West Hartford hookah bar they own early Wednesday morning.

Police said George Ayoub, 47, called 911 to report that his wife had stabbed him at 1001 Arabian Nights Hookah Lounge at 134 Park Road around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday. Responding officers found a large sword at the scene.

According to police, Ayoub and his wife, 24-year-old Najeh Frehi, own the hookah lounge together.

The business was closed when police arrived and the door was locked. Ayoub was inside and tried to open the door but couldn't reach it because of his wounds. Police said officers broke the glass to get to Ayoub and begin treatment.

He was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment of life-threatening stab wounds to his abdomen. Police said Ayoub was rushed into emergency surgery and is listed in critical condition.

Frehi was also injured and is being treated for serious injuries to her shoulder and hands, police said.

Police said there might be more than one crime scene location. They are investigating outside of the hookah lounge, which was cordoned off with police tape.

"From here we’re getting search warrants to go in and collect any evidence that may be inside. We obviously have officers at the hospital monitoring the progress of the medical treatment for the victims and try to determine what happened," said West Hartford Police Capt. Donald Melanson.
