Two people on a motorcycle suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash that involved a deer on Interstate 93 near St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

Police said a car was in the left travel lane on northbound I-93 on Monday afternoon when a deer ran in front of it from the median. The car struck and killed the deer, swerving into the right lane. It struck the motorcycle, causing it to veer of the right side of the road and travel down a grassy embankment.

Police said the driver of the motorcycle, 72-year-old Pierre Mailhot and his passenger, 72-year-old Genette Charland, both of Bury, Quebec, were taken to the hospital. They were wearing helmets.

The car driver, 56-year-old Cheryl Thwaite of Derby, was not injured.
