2 High School Freshmen Struck, Driver Charged After Fleeing

A driver has turned herself in after police say she struck two high school freshmen and fled Wednesday afternoon in Billerica, Massachusetts.

The crash took place in the area of 420 Boston Rd. The  victims' injuries are considered serious, but not life-threatening.

The driver, a 35-year-old woman, turned herself in around 5:30 p.m. She is being charged with four misdemeanors.

Friends who were with the victims say cars had stopped at the crosswalk to let them cross, but that one driver went flying through and hit two girls.

"We just see a car driving full speed, and I see my friend Cayley just go flying in the air, and I see Sarah’s leg just twisted," said Nasser Musisi. "Then the car just kept on driving a little bit, and then she turns around, and just stares right at us, all of us - and then she just drives off."

One of the girls ended up on the hood of the Toyota Camry.

The driver's family said she was too upset to talk.

Town officials say the pedestrian lights were meant to make crossing Boston Road easier. They were installed last year and activate immediately once the button is pushed. They were part of a $2 million project to improve safety.
