Authorities say two Massachusetts police officers who had pulled over a person suspected of drunken driving were struck and seriously injured by a second alleged impaired driver.
Officials say Deerfield officers Timothy Boland and Nick Limoges suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries at about 2 a.m. Saturday when they were struck on Greenfield Road by Childs Cross Road. They are being treated at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
State Police arrested the driver who struck the officers for operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs. The driver, whose name has not been disclosed, will face multiple charges at Greenfield District Court.
Authorities say the other driver who had been pulled over had a child in the car and faces multiple charges, as well, including operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of an intoxicating liquor and operating a motor vehicle with a child in the vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. That person's name also has not been released.
Police say the two officers were on the side of the road when they and their cruiser, which had its emergency lights on, were struck by the second driver.
It's unclear if either driver has an attorney.
The investigation is ongoing.
