Two state lawmakers say they'll once again try to pass legislation codifying the landmark Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade's abortion protections into Rhode Island law.
Democratic state Sen. Gayle Goldin and Rep. Edith Ajello say they've pre-filed the Reproductive Health Care Act for the 2019 session.
Goldin and Ajello pushed for the same bill in 2017 and 2018. They're also looking to strike several old state laws concerning reproductive rights that have been declared unconstitutional and unenforceable.
Ajello says there's a real chance that Roe v. Wade could be overturned, leaving Rhode Island women subject to what she called ``insidiously restrictive, harmful and patriarchal reproductive laws.''
Goldin called on state leaders to affirm that a women's right to make decisions about her own body is protected in Rhode Island.
