2 Shot Outside of Mass. Bar

Springfield Police Commissioner John Barbieri says a double shooting that took place outside a bar in the western Massachusetts city over the weekend was both gang- and drug-related.

The Republican of Springfield reports the shooting happened around 1 a.m. Saturday in Springfield's Hungry Hill neighborhood.

Barbieri says the gunman, who is still wanted, shot two men outside the entryway to Moriarty's Pub and Grill on Liberty Street.

Police say the two victims have gang affiliations. They are both expected to survive. Barbieri says one of the victims is refusing to cooperate with the investigation.

Mayor Domenic Sarno said at a news conference Saturday morning that Moriarty's is among Springfield's bars that attract "a negative element."

Owner Michael Moriarty says he went home for the night before the shooting occurred.
