2 Teens Arrested in Connection With Cambridge Shooting

Authorities say two 15-year-old teens will face a number of charges in connection to the Central Square shooting

Two Massachusetts teenagers are facing a number of charges in connection to a shooting last week in Cambridge.

Following an investigation into a May 13 shooting in Central Square, police arrested a 15-year-old male teenager from Boston and a 15-year-old male teenager from West Roxbury.

Both were scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Middlesex County Juvenile Court.

The 15-year-old from Boston will face multiple charges, including armed assault to murder, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a firearm in felony, and possession of firearm without an FID Card.

The 15-year-old from West Roxbury is facing charges of carrying a firearm without a license and accessory after the fact.

Police said officers had been patrolling Central Square when they heard possible shots fired in the nearby area and a group of young men fleeing.

When other officers arrived and the area was canvassed, police were able to locate and stop one of the suspects on Green Street. He was taken in for questioning. Officers also recovered two shell casings on Pearl Street and another on Massachusetts Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

Before the shooting, two groups of teens had been seen in the area. Police were able to identify them with law enforcement partners via surveillance video and make their arrests.

"I am very pleased that our officers quickly identified and arrested the young men responsible for this senseless violence," said Cambridge Commissioner Branville G. Bard, Jr. "This was a brazen act and we were fortunate that nobody was injured. This type of behavior is not acceptable in our community and, as we have demonstrated, we won't rest until we identify who is responsible for these troubling acts."
