Rep. Joe Kennedy III is thinking about making a run for fellow Democrat Ed Markey's Senate seat.

The state's two top Democratic legislative leaders say they're sticking by their earlier endorsements of U.S. Sen. Edward Markey, who is facing a possible Democratic primary challenge from U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy.

Senate President Karen Spilka and House Speaker Robert DeLeo both said Monday they're not wavering in their support of Markey.

Spilka said she was standing by her endorsement.

DeLeo told reporters he's known Markey since he was in the U.S. House and respects the work he does.

DeLeo added that he has worked with Kennedy and also respects the work he has done in Congress.

Kennedy has yet to officially announce his candidacy.

Markey is already facing two, lesser-known candidates — Shannon Liss-Riordan, a workers' rights lawyer, and Steve Pemberton, a former Walgreens executive.
