Dump Truck Driver Sought in Deadly Wareham Hit-and-Run

The accident was reported around 5 a.m. Monday on Route 195

Massachusetts State Police are searching for the driver of a dump truck believed to be involved in a possible hit-and-run crash in Wareham that left a 48-year-old man dead.

Authorities began to receive reports of the deadly crash at 4:45 a.m. and were told to respond to Route 195 eastbound, near the Route 28 exit.

At the scene, a black Nissan Titan pickup truck was observed with heavy front end damage. Authorities say the vehicle's passenger, a 48-year-old man, died at the scene. State police did not release the fatal victim's identity.

The truck's driver was taken to Tobey Hospital for treatment. Officials did not describe the driver's condition nor did they name him.

A preliminary investigation determined a "large construction dump truck" was the second vehicle involved in the deadly crash, according to state police. The vehicle is described as having a gray body, steel tailgate and likely has damage to the rear of the driver's side.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact State Police Detectives in the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office at 508-894-2600 or the State Police Bourne Barracks at 508-759-4488.
