(NECN: Julie Loncich, Newton, Mass.) - The Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Conn. has school officials across the country rethinking their security measures.
Now, officials in Newton, Mass. are taking action.
Changes will include security cameras and monitors in all elementary and middle school.
It will cost the district $560,000, but administrators, faculty and parents all say it is worth it to keep children safe.
"Sadly, we're in a different time now," said superintendent David Fleishman.
He says what happened three months ago, just two and a half hours away, changed everything. Shortly after the tragedy, Newton school officials decided to implement a security overhaul.
