Boston Police Comm.: ‘Boston Is Safe'

(NECN: Brian Burnell) - Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis commented on the capture of the second Boston Marathon bombing suspect Friday night.

"We're very, very happy that Boston is safe tonight. We've been working around the clock literally since Monday and we're very, very happy that this is over," he says.

Many people were wondering why law enforcement did not apprehend the suspects on Marathon Monday. However, Commissioner Davis says while they would have liked to have gotten them on the first day, it wasn't as easy at that.

"There's an enormous amount of work that goes into something like this and an enormous amount of coordination. You can see just the logistics of putting together this response today, so I'm very proud of the work that was done by the partners in this operation led by Rick DesLauriers from the FBI," he says.

Was there an 'aha' moment during the investigation?

"The videos were an important development in the case, but then tragically the murder of the MIT officer got us all rolling and we felt there might be a connection, and tragically, it worked out that it was, but that's really what lead to the immediate arrest and the death of one of the suspects," Davis says.
