(NECN: Jen Eagan) - The investigation into the bombings is turning to the FBI. In Washington, members of the House will reportedly be briefed by federal investigators later Tuesday. Several members of congress expected to raise serious questions.
Several republican lawmakers had questions about the decision to not consider Dzhokhar Tsarnaev an enemy combatant. He is being charged as a criminal, with access to a lawyer, because he is a naturalized U.S. citizen.
This investigation is in its very early stages right now.
Two U.S. officials tell the Associated Press that Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who died in a gun battle with police, was a follower of Jihadist websites and extremist propaganda, checking out the websites in the days and weeks leading up to last week's bombings.
Authorities reportedly say they do not believe Tamerlan or his brother had links to terror groups but that they were motivated by a radical version of Islam and that Tamerlan frequently read publications like "Inspire Magazine."
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano says the country will learn from last week's Boston Marathon bombings. Napolitano was speaking during a hearing on immigration reform on Capitol Hill Tuesday when she made these comments.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is recovering from gunshot wounds to neck, legs and hand. He is listed in fair condition, according to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
He was charged Monday with using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death and malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death.
