Louisiana Woman Fighting for Fifth Kidney Transplant

(NECN: Britney Glaser) - At age 11, Amy Hastings had already been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. At that same age, she underwent her first kidney transplant.

In the years since, Hastings has battled her disease with passion. Now 37, she's looking to undergo her fifth transplant.

But doctors have denied her candidacy, leaving her on 20 hours a week of dialysis to keep her alive.

"It doesn't matter where I have to go, what I have to do - it's my life, and no doctor is going to change that," Hastings said.

The same passion that carried her through her first four transplants is present today, as Hastings fights for yet another kidney, and for her life.
