Suspicious Letters Sent to Boston Public Schools

(NECN: Justin Michaels) - Suspicious letters were sent to 24 Boston Public Schools.

Boston Police say the letters referenced Al-Qaeda and weapons of mass destruction. Tthere was some ranting and crazy language, but nothing geared at any particular school in Boston.

All were photocopies of the same typed note and were sent from Texas. None of the letters were signed or had any reference to a name. The FBI in Boston confirms they are coordinating with the FBI office in Dallas, Texas.

Police stepped up patrols at schools after learning of the letters Thursday.

A notice went out to parents, which obviously raised some concerns.

"Yeah… Of course I'm going to be concerned… With all that's going on these days, yes, I do have some concerns," said parent Michael Wood.

Police are stepping up patrols and are having an increased presence at city schools today in Boston.

But they want to reassure parents and students that they do not consider these letters to be a credible threat to the Boston Public Schools.
