Sentencing to Begin for Former Chelsea, Mass. Official

(NECN)  - Sentencing begins Friday for the disgraced former director of the Chelsea, Mass. Housing Authority.

Michael McLaughlin faces up to 18 months in federal prison, after pleading to charges that he deliberately hid his salary from regulators.

He resigned in 2011 after the Boston Globe reported that his annual salary was more than $300,000, one of the biggest salaries of any public official in the country.

Under a plea agreement, McLaughlin agreed to cooperate with investigators.

A state Grand Jury has been investigating McLaughlin's fund-raising on behalf of politicians including former Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray.
