Hernandez Facing 6 Charges, Including 1st Degree Murder

(NECN: Katelyn Tivnan) - There was a stunning turn of events surrounding Aaron Hernandez Wednesday. He's now charged with first-degree murder,

The former New England Patriot was taken in handcuffs from his home in North Attleboro just after 8:30 Wednesday morning. He later appeared in Attleboro District Court where prosecutors laid out a number of charges. The most serious was murder in the first degree.

He also faces weapons counts, including carrying a firearm without a license, two counts of possessing a large capacity firearm and two counts of possessing a firearm without an FID card, one of those counts involves ammunition.

Prosecutors detailed in court how Hernandez orchestrated the execution of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd. He's a family friend who was found dead Monday in an industrial lot about a mile from Hernandez's home.

Prosecutors say surveillance video shows Hernandez driving the car allegedely involved in the crime. Surveillance video from his own home also allegedly shows Hernandez carrying the gun believed to match the murder weapon.

Hernandez was ordered held without bail and was taken to the Bristol County House of Corrections.
