Hernandez Arrested, Charged With Murder

(NECN: Julie Loncich, Attleboro, Mass.) - Stripped of his uniform and his former glory, Aaron Hernandez stood stoically and emotionless in open court Wednesday with the eyes of the world and the victim's family steadfast upon him.

No longer a Patriot, the 23 year old listened to the long list of allegations against him, including murder in the first degree. The details of this case, far too painful for the victim's family.

"He orchestrated his execution and that's what it was," ADA William McCauley says.

Video shows Hernandez and two others picking Lloyd up at his Dorchester home at 2:30 Monday morning. Two nights earlier, prosecutors say Hernandez had been at Rumor nightclub with Lloyd in Boston, and whatever happened that night had angered the former tight end.

"And there was certain things that had happened during the night that he was upset about and now didn't trust the victim," McCauley says.

Witnesses reported hearing five gunshots around an hour later in the North Attleboro, Mass. industrial park near Hernandez's home.

"As he fell on the ground the defendant and his confederates stood over him and delivered the two fatal shots, he actually was still alive," McCauley says.

Prosecutors say Hernandez and his two associates returned to his home minutes later. Hernandez, they allege, then tampered with his video surveillance. The murder weapon hasn't been found.

"Rather hysterical atmosphere. We want this defendant evaluated on the merits that any other defendant would be before this court," defense attorney Michael Fee says. "It is, at bottom, a circumstantial case. It is not a strong case."
