SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - A fire official in Simi Valley, Calif., says there's no indication what caused a Fourth of July fireworks explosion that injured dozens of spectators at a community aerial display.
Ventura County Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike LaPlant says more information is needed from the pyrotechnics company and eyewitnesses.
Police earlier said a fireworks shell apparently detonated prematurely and knocked over other launching mortars. LaPlant says, however, that multiple things could have happened.
Reports from hospitals show the number of injured, originally put at 28, has surpassed 30 but the exact total is unclear. All but a few were minor injuries.
