Police Not Talking About Middleboro, Mass. Shooting

(NECN: Kathryn Sotnik, Middleboro, Mass.) - Police have not released much information with regard to an overnight shooting in Middleboro, Mass. that left one woman dead and one man in the hospital.

Authorities responded to a report of a woman bleeding on Highland St. around midnight on Thursday, only to find she was suffered from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The woman's husband and another person gave her CPR, according to the District Attorney's office.

When police arrived, they say a man approached them with a long-barreled firearm and refused to put the weapon down.

According to authorities, the man pointed the weapon at police and they responded by opening fire.

That man is now in the hospital and is expected to survive.

The names of the victim and the suspect have not been released, and investigators would not comment on the connection between the two people, other than that the man was staying at the woman's home.

Neighbors said that they've complained multiple times about hearing rifle fire at the house.

No one has been charged with murder in the woman's death, but the man in the hospital has been charged with assault with intent to the murder the police.
