(NECN/NBC News: Jay Gray) - After 12 days of testimony from 56 witnesses, the courthouse in Sanford, Fla. has gone quiet, waiting for the last word from the six women who will decide whether George Zimmerman will spend the rest of his life in prison.
The focus remains on the fifth floor of the Seminole County Courthouse, where six jurors continue their work behind closed doors this weekend.
There are four possible conclusions to this case: guilty of second degree murder, guilty of manslaughter, not guilty or a hung jury.
"However the jury does decide in this case, if they reach a verdict, they did deliberate for a significant time,” said legal analyst Lisa Bloom. “So, whichever side they reach, I think the other side can take some comfort that they really took this case seriously."
"Getting the exhibit list is extraordinarily important because from there, the leader can go through and show them what the evidence is, and when there are questions that show up, they have the exhibit list and they can go and find the original document," said defense attorney John Burris.
As the six women on the jury work through that evidence, emotions are on display outside the courthouse.
A handful of supporters for both Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin have gathered at times like so many following the trial anxious now to see how it might end.
