(NECN/NBC News: Doug Greene) - Connecticut police say a convenience store clerk has been critically injured trying to stop the theft of two signs featuring images of actor David Hasselhoff.
"He ended up flipping backwards, falling on his head, and taken to the hospital," said Shelton Police Lt. Bob Kozlowsky.
Kozlowsky says Shelton Police are reviewing surveillance video from a camera at the Cumberland Farms on River Road.
The Hasselhoff signs advertising for Farmhouse Blend iced coffee are what the clerk was trying to get back from the people in the SUV.
"I wouldn't put my life on the line for David Hasselhoff cutouts," said East Haven resident Bert Ferriaolo. "I didn't like him that much when he was an actor, never mind a cutout."
"I'm shocked, I'm so surprised," said Shelton resident Bobbi Smith. "This is usually a very safe area. I feel terrible for the man."
Police have witnesses who were there at 1:15 a.m., witnesses who have been trying to help them find two men and a woman.

"But if anyone else saw anything, what we have right now is a black SUV leaving the scene," said Kozlowsky. "It was heading toward the Stratford town line."
The Cumberland Farms clerk, whose name police are keeping secret, tried to get the signs back and somehow got hooked to the SUV as it drove away.
