House of Blues Reopens Its Doors in Boston as Death Investigation Goes on

(NECN: Scot Yount, Boston) - We're learning more about the victim of an apparent overdose death at the House of Blues in Boston as the club re-opens its doors.

We're also hearing from some of the people who knew the teenager.

“A sweet, sweet kid, she was really very nice to have around," said Jennifer Brown, a teacher at Pinkerton Academy.

Nineteen-year-old Brittany Flannigan of Derry, N.H. is being remembered as a hard worker and a good student.

Boston Police are investigating Flannigan's death, apparently from a drug overdose, that occurred here at the House of Blues early Wednesday morning.

Flannigan graduated from Pinkerton Academy just 14 months ago.

"Everybody is in shock, not something you would have expected to hear, it seems kind of out of the blue," Brown told reporters.

A 24-year-old woman who has not been identified was also hospitalized along with another man in his 20s.

Investigators report the three people did not know each other.

All were attending a concert here by Russian DJ Zed.

According to police reports, an ER nurse found two pink pills in a victim's jeans pocket and a white powder substance on her as well.

Toxicology reports are pending.

It is all very hard to hear for Flannigan's teachers. Joe Dion taught her senior English.

"She had a good sense of humor so, she was kind of quiet and we connected really well, so I was really able to get a good for the fact that she was a great kid when she was here and worked really hard," Dion said.

Right now, The House of Blues has reopened but a spokesperson says the management is cooperating with police.

The concert venue released a statement that read in part, "One individual has unfortunately passed away and our thoughts go out to their family and friends for their loss. This matter is under investigation and we are continuing to work with local officials."

The Russian DJ Zed who was performing the night of the apparent overdose tweeted; "Love and respect to those in pain right now. Our hearts go out to you."

The City of Boston's Licensing board is waiting for a completed police report before it will discuss the matter according to the board's chair.

After the report is made public, the board will vote to decide whether to take any action.

Records show the House of Blues has had its license suspended in the past for minor infractions, including blocking egress, an employee fighting with a patron, and a warning for serving alcohol to a minor.
