2 Injured in Crash of Small Plane in Hardwick, Vt.

HARDWICK, Vt. (AP) - Police say two Vermont residents have been hospitalized with injuries after their small, single-engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff.

Officials say a 1941 Aeronca 65CA airplane crashed on Pumpkin Lane in Hardwick at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The pilot, 59-year-old David Ring of Hardwick, and his passenger, 46-year-old Jennifer Manna of Hardwick, were taken to Copley Hospital in Morrisville with unknown injuries. Police say emergency response personnel removed the pair from the plane as it leaked fuel.

Ring told responders that he lost air speed seconds after taking off from his airstrip, and that his plane clipped a tree before crashing to the ground.
