Conn. Man Killed While Serving in Afghanistan

NEW MILFORD, Conn. (AP) - A 22-year-old Connecticut man has been killed in the line of duty while serving in Afghanistan.

The Connecticut governor's office says Staff Sgt. Todd "T.J." Lobraico, a 2008 graduate of New Fairfield High School, was a member of the New York Air National Guard.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has ordered flags to fly at half-staff in Lobraico's honor.

New Fairfield First Selectman Susan Chapman said she is heartbroken for the family.

A candlelight vigil is set for Sunday evening at a senior center in New Fairfield.

The New York Air National Guard says Lobraico was killed Thursday from wounds sustained when his unit near Bagram Airfield was attacked with small arms fire. The decorated soldier had deployed to Afghanistan at the end of June. It was his second deployment overseas.
