Mass. Officials: 4th Human Case of WNV Detected

(NECN) - Health officials in Massachusetts announced a fourth human case of West Nile virus for the 2013 season Monday.

Officials say a man, who lives in Essex County and is in his 60s, was hospitalized but later discharged.

Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health says testing was completed at the Hinton State Laboratory Institute Monday, and an investigation indicates the patient was most likely exposed to infected mosquitoes in Essex County.

Officials say the area is already considered to be at a moderate risk from West Nile virus and will stay at that level.
