(NECN) - Salem State Police Chief Gene Labonte updated the media Thursday with regard to the stabbing incident that happened on a campus shuttle bus Wednesday.
He says Timothy Wells, 25, was taken into custody outside Chatham, N.Y. on the Taconic Parkway around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
At this point, he has been charged as a fugitive from justice.
He's being held by New York State Police but they are coordinating with New York authorities to bring him back to Massachusetts as soon as possible.
They are seeking additional evidence out of New York, as well, as Wells' vehicle was impounded by NY authorities.
Labonte said you don't need a Salem State ID to get on the campus bus, and they will be reviewing that policy.
He said Wells was on a voluntary leave of absence from the university.

New York State Police got a report of a disabled vehicle outside of a toll booth. When they responded and ran the license plate, it was listed as a wanted vehicle and Wells was listed as a wanted person.
