Red Sox Store Manager: World Series Is Like ‘Christmas in October'

(NECN: Leslie Gaydos, Boston) - There's a lot of activity at Fenway Park to get ready for Wednesday’s game.

Ground crews are preparing the field, and the team store is busy keeping shelves stocked so fans at home and inside Fenway can get the Red Sox gear they need to cheer on the team.

The World Series frenzy continues on Yawkey Way. While the team may be feeling the pressure, so are a lot of other people around the park.

The Fenway grounds crew has been busy touching up the field, including a freshly painted World Series logo behind home plate. On the Green Monster, they were preparing a 200-foot flag for Wednesday’s opening ceremonies.

The shipments of World Series gear keep arriving at the Red Sox team store, and the staff is working long hours.

Store Manager Brian Maurer said this is Christmas in October.

“We’ve got a lot of fun stuff here in the store, and we’re just getting excited for Wednesday. You know, just like Christmas, it’s all the stress leading up to it and then Christmas morning, you’re very excited so we’re hoping that’s the same with Wednesday night.”

The anticipation is growing as analysts are counting down to Game One. Fans are making their predictions, too.

They estimate each home game will bring $10-million into the city of Boston, so, in that sense, it’s a win-win for everyone.
