(NECN: Katelyn Tivnan, Woburn, Mass.) - Families filled the sidewalks in Woburn, Mass. Sunday to take part in the town's annual Halloween parade.
But this year, onlookers have even more reason to cheer. Heading the parade as the grand marshal is MBTA transit officer Dic Donohue.
Donohue, a Woburn resident, was injured in Watertown during a shootout with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects.
Just months after being released from the hospital, he says he is happy to receive the honor.
"Folks continuing to come out, many months afterwards, and I get to see people I work with and people I know from the community again, so that's always a good thing," said Donohue.
The parade is organized by the Woburn host Lions Club. This year, they are paying tribute to the first responders of the Boston Marathon bombing. Onlookers say having Donohue as the grand marshal is a fitting touch.
"He put his life on the line for everybody that day in April, and it's the least Woburn can do for him," said Guy Spina.

Organizers say in its 59 years, the parade has only had four grand marshals who were not Lions members. But they say they couldn't be happier with this years choice.
"It just fits. The theme is honoring, first responders," said parade chairman Brian Murphy.
It's that outpouring of support from the community Donohue says played a big part in his recovery process.
"It just helps you kind of get along, get things done that you need to get done and make it through emotionally, as well," said Donohue.
