MSP Photographer Retires After Leaking Bombing Suspect Photos

BOSTON (AP) - A Massachusetts state police photographer who leaked dramatic capture photos of the bloodied Boston Marathon bombing suspect has retired days after he was disciplined for his actions.

Sgt. Sean Murphy released photos of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv) to Boston Magazine, which reported his retirement Tuesday. Murphy had said he was hoping to counter a Rolling Stone magazine cover shot of Tsarnaev he said glamorized the terror suspect.

State Police spokesman David Procopio said Tuesday that Murphy retired Nov. 1, days after internal charges against him were upheld. Those included unauthorized dissemination of information, insubordination, unsatisfactory performance and violation of departmental rules and regulation.

Murphy's attorney Leonard Kesten says he "decided to move on to a different chapter" of his life after 25 years with the police force.
