Can Vitamin-D Prevent Diabetes?

(NECN) - Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death for Americans and was responsible for 69,000 deaths in 2010, according to the CDC.

Endocrinologist and co-director of the Diabetes Center at Tufts Medical Center, Doctor Anastassios Pittas, may be on the verge of breakthrough in the fight against Type Two diabetes.

We talked to one of the participants, Kevin Moran, in his program, and Dr. Michael Holick talked about the difference between Type One and Type Two.

For more on this study, we were joined by Dr. Pittas.

He talked about D2D, which is a clinical trial to determine if Vitamin D supplementation can reduce the likelihood of developing Type Two diabetes in people who are at high risk for the serious metabolic disorder.
