EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) - Western Massachusetts authorities have identified a man and girl killed in a head-on crash in Easthampton that injured three other people, and police have arrested a man accused of causing the accident.
The Northwestern District Attorney's Office says 71-year-old Charles Hoffman of Easthampton and a 3-year-old girl died in Saturday afternoon's accident.
Officials say Hoffman's pickup was struck by an oncoming van that crossed the center line while being driven by 32-year-old Mauricio Velasquez of Springfield.
Authorities say the girl who died was Velasquez's daughter. A woman riding with Hoffman and a second passenger in Velasquez's van were seriously injured.
Velasquez also was injured. He was charged with motor vehicle homicide, drunken driving and other crimes.
Velasquez is detained on $50,000 bail. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
