Tree Falls on Boy After Zip-line Accident in Easton, Mass.

(NECN: Kathryn Sotnik, Easton, Mass.) – A tree fell on an Easton, Massachusetts boy around 11 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Initial investigation shows that he was zip-lining between two trees when one of the trees began to fall. He attempted to run away from the area, but was struck by the collapsing pine tree.

The boy, 10, was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Boston.

“My wife was out there smoking in the back laundry room and saw the kids playing on a zip line that must’ve been recently put up, and next thing you know, the tree fell, and you hear ‘oh my God,’” said a witness, Walt Tydesley Jr. “He was, like, out. But, he was still trying to breathe. You could feel that gasping for some type of air and when the paramedics took his jacket, they opened it up and you could see the big bruise mark across his lower back.”

He is in critical condition.

“I know they’re very active, very outdoorsy- very active people, very athletic,” said neighbor Lorna Paone.

Neighbors believe the zip-line may have been a Christmas present. The families were outside Thursday morning, putting it up.
