Police Investigating Suspicious Deep River, Conn. Death

DEEP RIVER, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut State Police have arrested a 21-year-old man and charged him with murder in the death of a woman found inside a Deep River home.

Authorities say Robert O. Rankin was taken into custody Thursday and is being held on $1 million bond. He is scheduled for arraignment Friday in Middletown Superior Court. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.

State troopers received a 911 call shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday reporting an unresponsive person at a home on Rattling Valley Road that troopers say is Rankin's last known address. Emergency medical workers pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Investigators have tentatively identified the woman but her name has not been released.

The state medical examiner's office is conducting an autopsy.

An investigation is continuing.
