School Superintendent: 4-day School Week Could Help Budget

(NECN) -   Public school students in one Massachusetts district could soon enjoy three-day weekends every week.

Mohawk Trail Regional School District is exploring the idea of a four-day school week.

Each school day would be 90-minutes longer to make up the difference.

The district includes the towns of Ashfield, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Hawley, Heath, Plainfield, Rowe and Shelburne.

School Superintendent Michael Buonicoti joined us to talk about the proposal.

He said that the idea came out of preparation for the school budget.

Buonicoti said the idea would be implemented in September of 2015.

He said that on the fifth day that working families would need to find heal with, there would possibly be an enrichment program.
