6 Mass. Cities Awarded Grants to Help Low-income Residents

(NECN) - Six cities in Massachusetts have been awarded funding to help improve the lives of low-income residents in their communities.

Governor Deval Patrick joined Federal Reserve President Eric Rosengren in announcing the winners of the state's "Working Cities Challenge."

More than 20 cities submitted proposals for how they would strengthen civic leadership and improve the lives of low income residents.

Grants totaling $1.8 million were handed out to Salem, Somerville, Chelsea, Holyoke, Fitchburg and Lawrence, which will receive the most money as part of the competition, $700,000.
