Peabody, Mass. Man Turns Himself in for Murdering Girlfriend

UPDATE 2/21 - 10:33 a.m.: The arraignment has been postponed to 2:00 p.m. Friday.

(NECN: Alysha Palumbo, Peabody, Mass.) - Forty-three-year-old Franklin Castano of Peabody, Mass. is facing murder charges after the Essex County District Attorney says he turned himself in to Lynn Police Thursday, allegedly admitting to murdering his 23-year-old girlfriend.

Investigators say the murder happened at 50 Keys Dr. in Peabody, but police were focused on the Eaves Peabody Apartments on adjacent Essex Lane.

Court documents show Castano has a history of arrests for domestic abuse.

In September 2010, he was charged with domestic assault and battery against his then separated, now ex-wife.

Just three months later on New Years Eve 2010, he was charged with domestic assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon against his then 20-year-old girlfriend who has the same name as the girlfriend he allegedly killed Thursday.

Police have not released her name.

Both cases were dismissed when the victims refused to testify.

Castano is being held at Middleton Jail overnight and is expected to be arraigned Friday morning in Peabody District Court.

The victim's mother said she was devastated by her daughter's death but too distraught to speak on camera.

The sister of Castano's ex-wife says Castano is a father of three and a "good person," but said they don't know all the details of what happened and send their condolences to the victim's family.
