Mass. Begins to Require Fingerprint Background Checks From School Employees

(NECN) – Fingerprint-based criminal background checks are now required for all public and private K-through-12 school employees in Massachusetts.

State Representative Alice Peisch, house chair of the Joint Committee on Education joined us for more on the subject.

She said the requirement is for anyone who could possibly have unsupervised contact with a student, including teachers, janitors, cafeteria, etc.

She said this means Massachusetts will have background information of any of school employees.

Peisch said she had no idea why Massachusetts was the last state to implement a policy like this.
