US Airways: Tip of Wing Hits Vehicle at Logan Airport

(NECN: Josh Brogadir, Boston) - Like so many planes preparing for take-off from Boston Logan Airport Tuesday, U.S. Airways Flight 740 bound for Philadelphia was heading to the de-icing area, when passengers tell us the pilot didn't quite make the turn around a truck.

A photo shows the plane's wing that scraped the de-icing truck, what the airline describes as a winglet, which is the end of the wing that flips up.

But it was enough to scrub the flight and get the passengers off the plane.

None of the 99 passengers or four crew members was injured, but all passengers had to be re-booked, and that means traveling Wednesday or even later in the week because so many flights are at or near capacity this week.

Witnesses described to us how it happened.

Passenger Anthony Docurral of Scituate, Mass. was looking out the window and says he saw the plane hit the truck.

Passenger Jessica Conlan of Jacksonville described it as a small bump that happened, but told us she was glad they didn't fly on that plane.

Passenger Toni Duncan of Atlanta said about 10 minutes later, the crew said they were not going to use that plane.

Passenger Robin Coveney of Scituate, Mass. said she was not too upset that she wasn't going to miss another sunset and was still going to see the Red Sox in spring training.

U.S. Air put passengers up for the night. The plane was moved off the tarmac to be inspected.
