Cat Found Tied by Shoelace to Nail in Wall Adopted Into New Home

(NECN) - Marte, a cat that was gravely injured after being found tied by the neck with a shoelace to a nail in a wall, has found a forever home.

The cat was removed by Lawrence, Mass. animal control in late January. He suffered severe injuries that required surgery.

Owner Billy Benavides faces animal cruelty charges.

Roughly six months old at the time of surgery, Marte was only given a 30 percent chance of survival. But he beat the odds.

Marte has now been adopted by Erin Backkom, who has been fostering him through his recovery from surgery.
