Polls Set to Open in Revere, Mass. Casino Vote

(NECN: Justin Michaels – Revere, Mass.) – Voters in Revere, Mass. will head to the polls Tuesday to decide if they should welcome one of the state's three casinos.

Polls open in Revere at 7:00 a.m. as the city votes again on whether or not the city of 50,000 wants a casino.

The $1.3 billion proposed deal has strong support on both sides of the debate.

One resident said, “I think it will be great for the city, businesses, jobs. I think it's a great thing."

Another resident said, "I think it's a really bad idea. I think it's going to, I think it's going to bring to watch traffic to the city and I think it's going to bring the type of people we don't want around here."

Revere voters said "yes" to the project last fall by nearly 60 percent and voters in East Boston said "no." Suffolk Downs then joined forces with Mohegan Sun to alter the plan and relocate the casino entirely onto the Revere side of the property. That alteration was successful and now requires another vote.

The Revere proposal at Suffolk Downs is one of two looking to get the state's sole casino permit for Greater Boston.

The other is Wynn Resorts, which is looking to build in neighboring Everett.
